Classic Album Sundays presents ‘Flying Start’ with The Blackbyrds’ Keith Killgo
Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy will be joined by founding Blackbyrds member, drummer and singer Keith Killgo to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the jazz-funk act’s second album ‘Flying Start’. Jazz trumpet player, composer and educator Donald Byrd inspired the group which featured some of his Howard University students including Killgo and the band went on to record 8 studio albums with several of their songs becoming chart hits, dancefloor classics and sample material for artists like Tupac Shakur, Da Lench Mob and Gang Starr. Some of their classics include ‘Walking in Rhythm’, ‘Rock Creek Park’ and ‘Mysterious Vibes’. Killgo continues to tour The Blackbyrds who are performing this month at Jazz Café.
After the interview Flying Start will be played in its entirety on vinyl on an audiophile sound system featuring KEF loudspeakers so that listeners can hear new details and nuances in the recording. The evening will conclude with a Q&A during which attendees will have the opportunity to ask Killgo their own questions. Join us to experience Flying Start in a way you never have before.

About Classic Album Sundays: Monthly Listening Sessions at KEF Music Gallery London
Classic Album Sundays was founded in 2010 by DJ/broadcaster/producer Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy as a response to the way we listen to music in the 21st century. CAS tells the stories behind the albums that have shaped our culture, and in some cases, our lives. They host worldwide album listening events that dig deep, immersing fans into the album through musical and verbal storytelling followed by an uninterrupted vinyl playback on some of the world’s best sound systems so that listeners can have a brand new experience of the featured album. Their website is a hive of classic album activity with artist interview videos, classic album podcasts, features and playlists and they also host an online Album Club for their Patreon Members.
For the first time since the pandemic, Classic Album Sundays will resume their monthly Album Listening Sessions now being held at the KEF Music Gallery London. The sessions are hosted by Colleen and other CAS hosts and often feature interviews with guest artists and producers allowing the music fan to take a deep dive into the back story behind a favourite album. The album will then be played in its entirety on an audiophile sound system featuring KEF loudspeakers so that listeners can hear new details and nuances in the recording. The evening will conclude with an informal chat and Q&A.
