Which subwoofer pairs best with each KEF speaker for the perfect marriage of bass and treble? And what subwoofer placements allow them to work together in perfect harmony?
In this guide, we'll answer all of these questions and more so you can enjoy every audio session on our LS wireless speakers the way the artist intended.
What is a Subwoofer?
Have you ever been to the movies and felt the power of those deep notes permeate the atmosphere, heightening your cinematic experience? Have you ever noticed that your favourite live music memories are the concerts where you couldn’t just hear the notes, but could feel vibrating throughout your body? Chances are a subwoofer was responsible for that incredible depth.
A subwoofer is a specialised speaker that replicates the low bass tones of audio that your usual wireless speakers might miss. You can learn more in our blog: What is a Subwoofer?
Do I Need a Subwoofer for my HiFi Speaker?
While our wireless HiFi speakers are more than capable of providing a supreme sound experience on their own, when you add a subwoofer, the HiFi reaches a whole new level, completing the soundscape for a completely immersive listening experience.
This, in turn, relieves some pressure on your LS Wireless speakers so that they can replicate the high and mid-range frequencies with even greater precision.
See our blog on how subwoofers transform your listening experience to explore further.
Which Subwoofer Should I Pair with my LS Wireless Speaker?
With their modern design and ease of connection through the KEF Connect app, any of our subwoofers would integrate seamlessly with an LS Wireless speaker system.
The key consideration is room size, ensuring a small room is not overpowered with sound nor a large room underwhelmed.
If your LS Wireless speaker will be placed in a larger room, a larger and more powerful subwoofer will work best. Alternately, a number of smaller subwoofers may create dispersed bass. See our blog on the benefits of multiple subwoofers to help you decide if this is the best option for you.
On the flipside, you don’t want a subwoofer that overpowers your chosen speaker, nor do you want a subwoofer that is substantially less powerful and struggles to keep up with your speakers, so it’s best to choose from the recommendations below.
* LSX ll / LSX ll LT speakers pair best with Kube 8 MIE, Kube 10 MIE, Kube 12 MIE, KC62
* LS50 Wireless ll pairs best with Kube 12 MIE, KC62, KC92 and 2 x Kube 12 MIE, 2 x KC62
* LS60 Wireless is best suited to 2 or 4 Kube 10 MIE/12 MIE/15 MIE/KC62/KC92.
How Should I Integrate my LS Wireless Speakers and Subwoofer?
Connecting your wireless speakers and subwoofer is simple using the KEF Connect app. You can then explore settings for bass extension, choose between mono and stereo settings for multiple subwoofers and more. See our blog on integrating a subwoofer with LS Wireless speakers for a more detailed guide.
Where Should a Subwoofer be Placed in Relation to my LS Wireless Speakers?
To judge where to place your subwoofer in relation to your speakers, place your speakers first using our speaker placement tips. This should be 300 to 1,000mm from your front wall and a good distance from your side wall.
To judge subwoofer placement, position your subwoofer in your desired listening spot and move around the room to see where the speaker audio and bass best blend together —this is your subwoofer’s bliss point.
If you have two subwoofers, they should ideally be placed parallel to one another, while four subwoofers are best positioned in the four corners of the room.
