Loud Hiss

Kube 8 mie.
Loud hiss (white noise) when plugged in even with no input connected. Returned it for a replacement, it does the same.
Kef have told me, "This is normal for an active product". My previous active sub does not hiss. So I've gone back to using that, and saved £600.

In responce to Kef's reply below.
As I said in the review, the product made the noise whilst standing on its own, just plugged in, no inputs, no cable interface !
And no, it wasn't because it was turned up to much, it did it all the time, at a constant level. I tried every permutation of gain, crossover, and all the switches, nothing made a difference. I even took it to another room and tried it in another socket outlet...just incase ! It's just poorly manufactured.
My LS50W2's are active and the noise is almost inaudible. You have to put your ear in the cone before you can detect it. Same for my Ruark Audio active speakers. And my old Denon sub with an intergrated AB amp doesn't make any noise ! You can hear this subs white noise from over 5 metres away in a quiet listening room.
The excuses Kef make when they have a poor product (like this and the original LSX) is unbelievable.

Dear customer, thank you for your rating of our Kube 8 MIE. Idle noise is not untypical for any amplifier in subwoofers or for other passive speakers. The idle noise increases by the amount of volume setting of the amplifier. We suspect you had the volume setting on a higher level (above 60 % of max. output). Since the lowest signal is being amplified even the electronics idle noise is amplified and can be heard in a quiet room. That is quite normal and is not audible when the subwoofer is in use for sound playback.

The amount of idle noise also varies by selected input type. The hissing you hear can also be humming. Humming is a common problem with subwoofers and usually occurs due to poor cabling or interference. If the subwoofer cable is laid close to power lines or other electronic devices, this can cause interference that is perceived as humming, I hope this helps.
