Join us as we delve into the essence of high fidelity, uncovering its true significance, and guide you in crafting your perfect speaker system to infuse your home with the unparalleled luxury of HiFi audio.
What Does High Fidelity Mean?
High fidelity describes audio that is reproduced from the original with the highest possible accuracy.
It’s sitting listening to a record in the comfort of your home and feeling like you’re in the crowd at the concert. It’s watching a movie and feeling like the actors are in the room with you. It’s playing a video game, and the game's world comes alive as every little sound is heard precisely
.
The trademarks of high fidelity audio are:
• Minimal levels of distortion
• A full and accurate range of audible frequencies
• The sound spreads around the space evenly
• Each component of the soundscape is unique and distinct
• The midrange, treble and bass frequencies are well-balanced
Why Choose High Fidelity?
Imagine a relaxing summer evening unwinding in the garden, listening to music with family and friends as the sun begins to set. An ordinary Bluetooth speaker linked to a Spotify account can provide a pleasant enough backing track for the occasion - but that´s not Hifi.
But with KEF’s HiFi speakers, you can experience the music exactly as the artist intended. Enjoy every note and harmony. Identify each subtle instrument that underpins the melody. High fidelity enables you to rediscover your favourite tracks, in pristine detail, like never before.
How to Build a HiFi System
Ready to level up your listening with HiFi? Our tips can help you to craft the perfect sound system.
Audio Source
When streaming, there are several file formats that you can use for high fidelity sound.
Waveform Audio File Format (WAV) is an uncompressed format similar to a CD. Apple has its own version called Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF).
Free Lossless Audio Compression (FLAC) is a lossless file, meaning the file size is small without losing vital information.
Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) are Tidal’s HiFi files. There can be some loss with these, and the fidelity is similar to that of smaller files of other types. For this reason, Tidal is currently replacing MQA content with FLAC format files.
Digital to Analogue Converter
The higher the sample rate and bit depth, the higher the fidelity. The sample rate is the number of snapshots taken of the original soundwave, while the bit depth refers to how much detail each snapshot can capture.

Here at KEF, we place the speaker’s tweeter at the acoustic centre of the midrange cone (in some cases in the bass and midrange cone), dispersing all frequencies from a single point source.
Single Apparent Source Technology
Metamaterial Absorption Technology
